  • All is Suffering "s/t"
    From Scenester Credentials
    { SC006 }   { 7 inch }

    Maryland's All Is Suffering couble be just as easily found opening for Iron Maiden as they could playing the dirtiest DIY basement venue. This is to say that the band owes just as much to eighties thrash metal as it does to modern crusty hardcore. Seriously pummeling riffs backed by pounding drums that would have and grindcore/metal/punk band drooling, and vocals that are shrieked with gut wrenching force. This band encompasses everything that is great about hardcore. This 7" captures tow of the songs from the bands final recording session and will forever be a document of the bands progression and where they were heading. If this band were still around today they would be standing atop a pile of their less talented contemporaries.

  • Alligator "Prehistoric Reptilians"
    From Bring Back the Magic
    { BBtM#3 }   { lp }

    They're this really great band from St. Augustine that kind of does this noisy kind of punk that reminds me of a yelly version of the Big Boys less dancey, more punk songs. It's dudes from Environmental Youth Crunch, Tubers, Solid Pony, the Winslows, and like a ton of other bands.....actually, yeah, it sounds like if you took different aspects of all those bands and smashed them together in one band. Seriously, it's real good.

    Electro-no wave-sciencefiction-punk and lot of great elektro-keyboard-computer sounds from Hamburg/germany.Dominated by keyboards and drums, with female vocals, they are like a german equivalent to bands like SICK LIPSTICK,Le Tigre or Milemarker... but also strongly reminiscent of early-80ies bands like Malaria, Nena and X-Mal Deutschland!

  • Antilles "s/t"
    From Allergic to Fun
    { ATF001 }   { lp }

    This one-sided 12" features four chaotic tracks from some of Ohio's best. It's hard to pin down just what Antilles sound like; the Dischord-ant riffs played at hyperspeed come out having obliterated any influence originally aimed for. From Nimbus Module
    { NIMBUS005 }   { lp }

    asthma atttaq take the listener through a winding corridor of screamo, noise, metal, post rock, and jazz with all kinds of cool, trippy parts that sound like Tarantula Hawk or Yeti (and even kinda like Yes a little bit), twinkling emocore (not unlike Shotmaker) with insanly screamed and high pitched vocals (think Jeromes Dream) and blistering, wall of sound tech noise madness (ever heard of Lightning Bolt?!)

  • Bafabegiya "Those Who Die Dancing"
    From Spacement
    { SPACE04 }   { 7 inch }

    Another fantastic release of high energy hardcore with crusty edges and socially relevant lyrics that aren't just brandishing an aesthetic but truly a way of using hardcore and punk as a tool to change our lives. Bafabegiya are seriouslly the middle finger to the sea of bullshit co-opted pseudo major label posing bands calling themselves hardcore. Bafabegiya remind me why I love punk and hardcore. • Bafabegiya/Arabella "split"
    From Spacement
    { SPACE01 }   { 7 inch }

    This is the first recorded material from Reno, NV's Bafabegiya. This split finds Bafabegiya in their early crustier, harder edge almost His Hero is Gone sound. While Arabella play a unqiue brand of chaotic screamo that has parts that are almost danceable in a Fugazi kind of way sometimes. A very solid split.

  • Bafabegiya/Greyskull "split"
    From Spacement
    { SPACE07 }   { 7 inch }

    A really tight split 7 inch that definitely some of the firecest hardcore that I have heard in some time. Bafabegiya, whom feature members of Crucial X Attack play and old school style of thrashy hardcore that could easily fit into the 625 Thrash roster of bands. On the other side Greyskull are relentless with their three tracks of brutal in their delivery of bass heavy hardcore with metal tinges. Musically as well as lyrically comparable to bands like Catharsis and Requiem or even a modern Chokehold.

  • Bats and Mice "s/t"

    Two brandnew fantastic songs. Bats and Mice features 3/4 members of Sleepytime Trio (Ben Davis, Jonathan Fuller, and Dave Nesmith). also members from Engine Down, Rah Bras, Milemarker. Bats & Mice is a band that has quietly crept through the music world with an increasing presence. • Blood Brothers, The "Piano, Island, Burn"
    From Second Nature
    { SNC40 }   { lp }

    The Blood Brothers have always been a band that pushes themselves to the extreme: musical mayhem, bad attitudes, bad haircuts, and bad ass riffs. Strap yourself in and feel the limit. Here it is... the next chapter. Comparable to bands before them, but taking it to the next breaking point. In the vein of Drive Like Jehu, Antioch Arrow, and The Crimson Curse. Nobody can avoid finding the urgency and angst displayed in the sounds produced by these five young lads and Ross Robinson... from the darkest city in the United States, Seattle.

  • Bolz'n "Spaltfunktion"
    From React with Protest
    { RWP20 }   { lp }

    this is some very fucking promising tech-grindcore.talking about majorly intense and frantic grind with wildly chaotic drumming that barely seems to follow the same beat as the guitars, which are ultra fast and a little noisy, but also super detuned for added heaviness. Also in place are layered screaming/growling female vocals (some of the best I've ever heard), crazy technical riffs with plenty of blasting speeds, and lots of weird chord phrasings and rhythmic patterns that really fuck with the structures and make for an odd listen. you ve been warned.

  • Bucket Full of Teeth "IV"
    From Level Plane Records
    { LP74 }   { LP }

    Formed in Early 2001 by Brad Wallace and Will Killingsworth, both former members of Orchid, Bucket Full of Teeth was conceived as a friendly venture in playing generic powerviolence but instantaneosly evolved into much more. The band quickly become more interested in pushing conventions of heavy music and punk rock, and in 2002 released 3 7"s simultaneously as a first attempt at personal experimentation and musical destruction. Having only played 6 shows ever, and primarily a studio project, Bucket Full of Teeth began work on new material in 2002. Between membership changes, and other members serving time in Ampere, Wolves, and Transistor Transistor, Bucket Full of Teeth have constructed this final recording, fusing elements of Death Metal, Ambient, Psychedlic, Prog, Thrash and Stoner Rock into a cohesive whole much better serving the original musical thesis attempted in their early recordings.Self-Recorded and painstakingly edited and revised at Dead Air Studios over the past two years Bucket Full of Teeth have produced a collage of sonic destruction both heavy and unpredictable.The band has said this will be their final release but rumors of working on new material and live incarnations surface often.

  • Burial Year "Pestilence"
    From Adagio 830
    { adagio830#12 }   { lp }

    At first listen to Burial YearUs debut full length, itUs comparable to entering a humid, rat infested basement crammed with a simmering stew of sociopaths and other societal dregs beating the bloody hell out of one another. Oddly enough, this maladjusted five-piece hails from one of the most serene bastions of pacifismin the worldI San Francisco. Featuring members of the annihilating hardcore outfits Takaru, Suicide Nation, and A Light in the Attic, the troupe has far surpassed their prior endeavors with their latest full-length, "Pestilence" on Upstate New York Alone Records. Driven by the same ravenous hate and blood thirsty brutality of Discordance Axis and Assuck, Burial Year are paving a new path straight through the filthy depths of todayUs slowly decaying hardcore and metal compost pile. "Pestilence" is the most challenging and technical album Burial YearUs members have released to date, featuring an extremely rhythmic heavy foundation, complex metallic riffing, and politically charged venomous words. Burial Year simply is a combination of hardcore mentality fused with metal brutality. "Pestilence" will surely please the ears of even the most XUed up and beer soaked rebook high top wearing thrasher. Having finalized their debut crushing onslaught in the studio, Burial Year will spend the majority of 2006 serving Europe and North America their lethal dose of contempt and political unrest with a slew of live dates that will surely leave any metal or hardcore enthusiast lying on the stoop of death door pleading for more.

    From Adagio 830
    { Adagio 830 #29 }   { lp }

    BURIAL YEAR (RIP) from San Francisco offer the final recordings including a UNBROKEN cover song. Burial Year has been the follow up band of bands like TAKARU & A LIGHT IN THE ATTIC. The full length has been one of the best records I released on ADAGIO830 and its way underrated. Burial Year play once again metallic brutal hardcore like the did w/ Takaru. The recordings kill everything. ZANN have one new pretty long tune and an a CHOKEHOLD cover. You know we got stoked in the mid90ies mosh hardcore. So what do you expect. All records come w/ a nice gatefold w/ artwork by Adam Hunt NOTE - the plant mixed up the labels on the A/B side. So Burial Year is under the Zann label and the other way around

    Both bands are from the Lehigh Valley PA. Carpenter Ant play old school, metallic hardcore complete in style and recording just like this was a late 80s record that everyone would have mail ordered back in the day. A desperate feel comes through in their music, just like punk is supposed to include. The Headaches are a rudimentary (sloppy and simple, yet enjoyable in a DIY sort of way) hardcore band. They have an 80s East Coast US punk/HC influence.

  • Dead Friends "s/t"
    From IFB Records
    { IFB018 }   { 7 inch }

    Dead Friends are an awesome band from Gainesville, FL, and I'm happy to be a part of this release with Drugged Conscience and Obscurist Press Records. Merkit got to go on tour with these young men, sharing burritos and basements. There was a tour edition cover but they are gone. This is hardcore characterized by frantic energy and chaotic melody. Everyone sings, each bringing their own feel to the songs. I hear a lot of Assfactor 4 in this, which is great because that spastic, bottled up energetic sound has not been explored well enough. The covers are screenprinted and are just the kind of slightly offputting art that I like so much

  • Death Cycle "s/t"
    From Chainsaw Safety
    { }   { LP }

    Hailing from new york, the four members of Deathcycle have been a part of the music and political scene for over 2 decades. Their debut full length album is a testament to their musical influences and their outspoken political beliefs. In a time where people are afraid to voice their true opinions for fear of being labeled 'controversial', Deathcycle know no other way. Combining the musical elements of heavy, early crossover metal with classic hardcore energy (think Motorhead mixed wth early C.O.C. with classic NYHC parts), these four musicians have been going non-stop since their inception. The album was recorded with Mike Hill (from Black Box records/Anodyne notoriety) and the cover was designed by Ryan Patterson. colored vinyl!

    After eight years, three albums and several tours around Europe, Finland's ECHO IS YOUR LOVE are back with their finest album. Humansize is a tight and unique mix of no-wave guitar madness, dreamy indiepop melodies, hardcore aggression and danceable post-punk rhythms. Haunting female vocals, sometimes angry, sometimes heavenly, wash over shards of guitar noise and shuddering drums, like if the girls from the B-52s were invited to sing with the one band that wants to save the world with its noise.

  • Efra/Seeing Means More "split"
    From Denovali

    Efra from Paso Robles (California) was born in August 2004. Equipped with two singers they play an energetic mixture of hardcore and screamo influenced by bands like Transistor Transistor and City of Caterpillar, but they also surprise you with calm parts in the vein of Explosions in the Sky or Godspeed! You Black Emperor – on the flipside we got SEEING MEANS MORE from California. In the beginning the starting off as a more traditional screamo band that was in the vein of Indian Summer, Jr Ewing, and Funeral Diner. These new songs are more heavy – but still w/ a lot of passion – all in all a great split 7“ that goes under the skin and the nice packaging looks great between all your other emo 7inches. From strictly no capital letters
    { sncl019 }   { 7 inch }

    two utterly wonderful songs from these two bands that are the perfect partners across these seven inches. empire! empire! have come up with a 5 minute delight, meandering indie / emo of the best kind, taking hints from mineral and benton falls and weaving them into their own design - it's a perfect stand alone song. football, etc. hit vinyl for the first time and you can only hope that there is more to come. they nail a truly original take on the indie / emo thing, with a song that gently pushes, a true slowburner. somewhere between evergreen, crash & britany and rainer maria, and yes, it's just as good as that seemingly ridiculous and impossible combination would suggset. this is a split release with US label count your lucky stars, if you are in the US, please pick it up from them! this release includes a download code.

  • End of a Year "Sincerely"
    From Slave Union
    { SU18 }   { lp }

    As part of the Albany music scene well known for its hardcore and metal, and veterans of heavy bands themselves, End Of A Year wanted to take it in a different direction. Inspired by the Revolution Summer period of D.C., END OF A YEAR decided that it is possible to be loud and honest while being tuneful. The music became a natural outgrowth of that position - melodic and, at times, pleasant but always gritty and married to a punk sensibility. Every member had spent time in basements and on stages well before End Of A Year and the confidence from those years is evident. Anxious to pit themselves against whomever, the band took shows with everyone from the most punishing metal bands to critically lauded indie rock outfits. End Of A Year will share a stagewith anyone and everyone, driven by the challenge of "difference." The band hopes to expand this groundswell of eccentric shows and gain an even more eclectic fanbase through extensive touring in the Northeast and beyond. Recorded in the legendary Inner Ear Studios - the birthplace of the band’s chief influences - with the equally legendary Don Zientara. Sincerely brings together components familiar and new – lyrical quirks that fit the sound to an eerie amalgam, fused by aggression and melody not often found in such raw music. Smart without being condescending, hardcore but not for the ignorant, Sincerely is too honest to be ignored.

  • Environmental Youth Crunch "Let's Ride"
    From Dead Tank Records
    { }   { LP }

    St Augustine's Environmental Youth Crunch digs Woody Guthrie, CCR, swimming, camping, bikes, making their own fuel and beer, all outdoors Florida has to offer, and sings about Florida environmental politics. EYC plays pop punk rock. They talk about ideas important to them between songs-rare around here these days given the swell to embrace the nightlife and not the day we've got to navigate too. EYC steers through both fluidly and with purpose. They offer ideas and actions towards something heavy directly affecting us and they do it in their sweaty underwear. Let's Ride is their first full length album. Let's Ride our rusty bikes into the ocean. . .Let's Ride on biodiesel touring throughout Florida. . . Let's Ride in opposition to those Disney cowboy chumps on the cover in the rodeo to overdevelop EYC's beloved state.

  • Fellow Project "Boots"

    This one has been a long time in the making. Joe & Tia of Fellow Project have been long time friends of mine whose music has inspired me for about 12 years now. I have always wanted to do a record for Fellow Project and for whatever stupid reason it took me this long to make it happen. And I couldn't be more excited to share these four brand new amazing tracks with everyone. 4 tracks of rocking indie rock with great lyrics and vocals. Take the lyrical gusto of Lou Reed channeled through stuff like Television and The Feelies with a bit more of a modern approach. I even hear some Cursive and Grifters in here. Indie rock that actually rocks. Features members of Bridge & Tunnel, and Yes Sensei as well as ex On the Might of Princes. A limited pressing of 300 with full color covers and a insert.

    From Kiss of Death
    { }   { 7 inch }

    Fellow Project band members are into music, horseracing, snakes, knitting, the buried life, etc.. They also play in the following bands that you may want to know, Bridge and Tunnel, On the Might of Princes, Yes Sensei, God's Gift to women, and Church of the Rowdy. Jonesin' come from the ashes of Down In The Dumps. Sounds like Dukes Of Hillsborough by way of Gunmoll: burlaped voice, like someone's throat is a bedroll of knives, dirt, and glass shards. Florida-ation facial grown rock by way of NYC that's working on, and beginning to succeed, in sounding epic.

  • Fellow Project/Thousandaires "split"
    From Kiss of Death
    { KOD051 }   { 7 inch }

    Brand spankin' new split 7 inch with two jams from each band. Fellow Project plays driving indie rock stuff that meshes together the lyrical gusto of Lou Reed with The Feelies and Television albeit with a more modern approach. I would say I even hear a little Cursive. Features members of Yes Sensei and ex- Bridge & Tunnel and On the Might of Princes. Thousandaires play driving, catchy indie punk rock stuff. • Forensics "Hogback Moutain Sessions Volume 1"
    From Tuned to You Records
    { TTY03 }   { lp }

    Virginia's Forensics are generally known for playing monolithic, mountainous brand of heavy guitar driven rock played at ceiling collapsing volume and intensity but this new album is part one of a continuing series documenting the band's improvisational work. The music captured on this record could be compared to the quieter moments of Old Man Gloom mixed with Explosions in the Sky. Forensics features ex members of such well respected bands as Pg. 99, Corn On Macabre, and Burning Airlines.This record is packaged nicely with a special natural cover stock with metallic copper and black ink as well as a bonus mini-poster. Excellent record and I can't wait to hear more from this series.

  • Ft (The Government Shadow) "Guns of August"
    From Scenester Credentials
    { SC008 }   { lp }

    ft (The Shadow Government) formerly know as "Flaccid Trip" have set to music the sounds of a new area of military governments and the cries of the people they rule. Recorded by Mike Lust in Chicago and by FT the SG in Iowa City at flat black studios. "Guns of August" is a sonic call to arms that incorporates all styles of music in its attempt to break down genres and topple governments. FT the SG's band members read more like a list of old war veterans with members of: Ten Grand, Forstella Ford, Tornavalanche, and Head of Femur. Also, inlisted for this recording were: Nathan (call me lightning), Connor (shedding), and Bob and Zach (tornavalanche). With plenty of fire power behind them FT the SG is armed to restore order to music and the rest of the world. Wake up sheeple!

  • Fucked Up "Litany"
    From Havoc
    { HC7043 }   { 7 inch }

    This is a re press of the Litany 7" originally released on Test Pattern Records. The original pressing was quite limited and sold out Fast. Havoc has agreed to press up 3,000 more of this killer. Four of Fucked Up's best songs. Hard hitting, catchy and memorable hardcore punk delivered with venom and spite. To my mind this is one of the best punk bands of the 21st Century thus far. The simple catchy songs strike me as being far deeper than they appear on the first listen. The band employs a stripped down "less is more" approach that is three steps ahead of most hardcore punk bands today. The end result are songs that work on several levels at once, manifesting themselves both as "thinking man's hardcore" and circle pit instigating ragers at the same time.

  • Get Bent "Dead It"
    From It's Alive Records
    { }   { 7 inch }

    Get Bent seem to draw their sound from a wide, varied pool of influences. So much so that it's hard to very clearly identify and pick out any of them much less all of them. They certainly haven't reinvented the wheel, but maybe they've just crafted a sound so much their own that they are their own biggest influence. The three tracks that make up Dead It are the last Get Bent ever recorded. There's a pretty big and constantly growing scene in and around New York city with a ton of bands making great music. Excellent gruff, melodic pop punk.

  • Ghost Towns "s/t"
    From Communique Records

    Born from the legacy of midwest punk history, ghost towns were convened and born on some brisk days. bastardized and birthing took place in basements and is now growing in what is known as "ghost house" and the uterus, being lincoln, nebraska’s insanity. These 2 songs were created with passion and a lot of heart. Melody and intracacies like l’antietam or van johnson and the intensity of kite flying society. i love these kids. they’ve got more than just this band, they’ve got something that this vague notion of a "scene" often lacks; sincerity.

They are fast and angry and they want to give you a kick in your ass so you start to think about stuff again and not just care about boring stuff like friendship. If you care – Ghostlimb features Justin from Graf Orlock and two other rad kids that have their heart in the right place. • Graf Orlock "Destination Time Today"
    From Adagio 830
    { ADAGIO830#40 }   { lp }

    { out of stock }
    Destination Time Today is the third installment of Graf Orlock’s chronology bending cinema-grind trilogy begun in 2006 and 2007. This new testament to nebulous ideas and bodily harm surveys such time honored themes as presidential assassination, robotic domination, and the pitfalls of pre-historic survival. Aesthetically, Destination Time Today continues a barrage of thrash and incomprehensible anger, while interweaving a filthy compliment of slow and grating depression, all within a two minute framework of ill- imagined social commentary. With a Jan 2009 East Coast tour, and Summer 2009 Euro Tour, Graf Orlock aim to inspire a cynical rebellion so infuriating, they hopefully won’t live to witness it.

  • Grey,The "Asleep at the Wheel"
    From Adagio 830
    { Adagio830#13 }   { lp }

    The Grey is a powerful, melodic rock quartet that periodically delves into experimental tangents. With influences ranging from Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, Seaweed, Drive Like Jehu, and Juno to Tom Petty, The MC5, Neil Young, and Nick Cave, one can be assured that hints of styles, new and established, can be found in their post-rock stylings. Formed in the spring of 2003 in Ottawa, Canada, The Grey turned sporadic practices among old friends in a sweltering attic into a weekly ritual. This allowed the members of previous bands such as Shotmaker, Three Penny Opera, and Buried Inside to assemble a new musical group. These casual sessions quickly began to churn out a hybrid of punk rock and quirky experimental parts that sparked the enthusiasm of everyone involved and The Grey was born.

    Halo Perfecto feature ex-members of Anton Bordman and Palatka. But this only tells half the story. While HP embraces the manic aspect of Palatka and the precision of Anton Bordman it is also far more melodic than either of those bands. Sung and screamed vocals, driving music and smart lyrics have garnered comparisons to Fugazi and Superchunk. Beautiful hand-screened covers by Mike Taylor (the bassist/vocalist) from Scenary zine.

  • Heartwarmer "Honeymoon"
    From Gasping For Breath
    { G4B005 }   { lp }

    The name kind of sums it up. Songs that crackle and pop the same way that glowing embers from a campfire rocket skyward, then slowly fade into darkness. Honeymoon feels like it was recorded on a bone-chilling December evening in a rickety Appalachian farmhouse. It shares a looseness and familiarity that most bands spend a lifetime trying to achieve, but Heartwarmer injects that tenderness with shadows and mystery which only makes the band that much more intriguing. Features ex members of Kentucky bands the kodan armada and foxhole.

    Amazing new record by these emo vetrans of the Last 40 Seconds and Saddest Landscape. Expect solid 1990’s style emo with pained vocals and raw, visceral guitar and drums. • Her Breath on Glass/Sofy Major "split"
    From IFB
    { IFB016 }   { 7 inch }

    Her Breath on Glass/Sofy Major split 7". I am very proud to have helped make this record happen. Her Breath on Glass is two guys who played in the Last 40 Seconds and Saddest Landscape and continue to display mastery of the 90's emo tradition. The calm instrumental breaks to noisy, pained guitar, wonderful drumming and passionate strained vocals. Sofy Major hails from France and continues France's legendary emo tradition. If Mihai Edrisch had a child with Envy and that child was noisy and unruly, that's what this sounds like. Thick pounding riffs give way to a noisy exit, all with the screamed vocals that the French have always excelled at. The packaging is a collaberation between all, with Thom (Sofy) and Andy (HBOG) contributing art which was screenprinted on handcut waste paper, then finished up with an amazing booklet that Andy put together.

    Italy is for lovers. Both Khere and Antithesis are great friends, they've been playing together in the Italian hardcore scene for many years. Each band offer one track each on this split vinyl. Khere offers a song which drastically changes their previous sound. Where before they had a slower, more Ebullition style sound, now they play very fast, almost emo-violent screamo. Definitely for fans of La Quiete and Ampere. Antithesis is on the other side with their crushingly heavy, dark hardcore. Fans of Reversal of Man take note.

    Back and better than ever, L'Antietam brings us 7 new songs clocking in at about 25 minutes. The emotionally charged blend of hardcore, punk and mid 90's emo, which has won so many fans over already, is still present; yet these songs show a definite natural growth to their songwriting. Without sacrificing skill or its sense of triumph, there is a more raw, dark, epic feel to this material. By far their strongest work to date.

  • L'Antietam "We Like it When the Red Water Comes Out"
    From Slave Union
    { SU015 }   { 7 inch }

    This New Hampshire 4-piece makes one hell of a first impression. Four songs of introspective lyrics screamed and shouted over passionate emotional hardcore that is as urgent as it is raw. They've recently drawn comparisons to Reversal of Man, Circle Takes the Square, and mid-90's emo.

  • Little Gold "On the Knife"
    From Adagio 830
    { ADAGIO830#46 }   { lp }

    { out of stock }
    ADAGIO830 is proud to release the debut full lenght LP by our friend Christian DeRoeck. After touring the US this fall for almost 4 weeks and released this album on CD by himself - this is the proper vinyl version. All records come w/ heavy cardboard cover, spot UV, poster inlay and heavy vinyl. Christian DeRoeck spent most of the past decade writing, touring & recording with the Brooklyn indie/punk band Meneguar. In late 2006, He and bandmate Jeremy Earl decided to combine their bedroom recordings and release them together, as Woods. They recorded two albums together and toured the US and Europe. In early 2008, for several reasons, Christian left both bands. He spent the summer of 2008 working as a carpenter in eastern Long Island. Inhabiting a tiny basement room, he began working on the songs that shape On The Knife. In the fall he moved back to Brooklyn and teamed up with his old friend, multi-instrumentalist Dylan Edrich (Chain and the Gang), and Little Gold was born. Recorded to tape at Emandee Studio in Brooklyn, On the Knife is a deeply personal take on love and loss, and was very much shaped by Christian’s departure from his previous bands. Like his earlier work with Woods, the songwriting is earnest, and of course there are a few indulgent headphone tracks as well. Now joined by stand-up drummer Patty Conway, Little Gold has begun to incorporate more improvisational and psychedelic sounds into their mellow, country-rock oeuvre, and in the process are becoming a notable live act around NYC.

  • Madeline Ferguson/Bury Me Standing "split"
    From Slave Union
    { SU007LP }   { lp }

    Madeline Ferguson is also back with a new 5-piece lineup that bears little resemblance to the 3-piece lineup on their previous CD. A much more energetic and diverse sound, still as urgent and frantic as before, but with more of an Iron Maiden influence showing up amongst the rocking and screaming. Being emotional never sounded so frightening. Bury Me Standing come back one last time with 6 songs that were recorded shortly before their demise. Imagine the brutal metallic hardcore with brains and conscience they were making before, but throw a lot more chaos into the sound. Male and female vocals that are absolutely insane (but beautiful when they need to be), truly hammering rythyms, and all out insanity.

    from Razorcake- Science hits again with another dirty Jehu-styled dirge—if you’ve heard either of their LPs or any of their 7”s, you know what pond you’re skinny dipping in. Fuck, Luke’s got a set of pipes on him. Old Growth totally rules this record, kicking out two rough-hewn pop songs (and I don’t mean pop in a crappy K Records way but a good, melancholy-but-still-rocking broken heart on your sleeve kind of way.) They’ve also got an LP out and after listening to their side of the split about twenty times in a row it looks like I’m gonna have to go pick it up.

Fans of this band's previous efforts and new fans alike are bound to view this as their best work to date, as well as their most vehement. • Rajbot "s/t"
    From Sedition
    { SED04 }   { 7 inch }

    Rajbot's (aka Raj Bhatt) first appearance on vinyl will turn some heads for sure. The two home-recorded and multi layered hip-hop and instrumental songs will hopefully convert some punk purists and grab the ears of open minded underground kids. The tracks included showcase Raj's talents on vocals as well as on beats. Raj pieces together samples of live instruments in ways that stretch the imagination but also keep a laid back groove. If you, like many, can't stand the macho and flashy attitude of mainstream hip hop but are interested in the punk ethic style of the underground you have found what you've been looking for.

  • Rajbot/Aamir "split"
    From Spacement
    { SPACE09 }   { 7 inch }

    Hip hop nerds Rajbot and Aamir, the latter of the Escape Artists, have joined forces for a quick, very limited-run split 7". Rajbot's "Bureaucrat in Denial" is essentially a poetic plea for bicylces over cars. Raj flips in and out of double time raps effortlessly over his self-produced, crunching, and mechanically minimalist beat. Aamir's "No More Commercial Interruptions" quickly touches on bicycle vs car, but appears to be more of a cryptic critique of current culture. The beat, cooked up by k the i??, starts off slow, and when it kicks in it is a murky, thick production like someone playing piano in a stamping factory. The package is loosely held together by artwork depicting bicycles, but the real connection between these two artists is their absolute desire to experiment on the boundaries of hip hop. Overall, an enjoyable experience for the adventurous

  • Showering Ashes "Beauty at the Price of vanity"
    From Scenester Credentials
    { SC005 }   { 7 inch }

    Showering Ashes are true Midwest Hardcore. Hailing from Iowa City, a town know more for indie rock and jam bands, Showering Ashes managed to carve out a niche for themselves in the hardcore/crust scene of the Midwest. Heavy d-beat style riffs (with a nod or two towards the metallic side of things) with political/personal charged lyrics about things that directly affect their lives as well as broader events on a more global scale. After several Midwest tours and line up changes the band decided to call it quits. Luckily for us they left behind the "Beauty at the Price of Vanity" 7", that chronicled the bands earlier metallic crust sound and proves that MIDWEST HARDCORE is still a force to be reckoned with.

  • Tornavalanche "No money No Problems"
    From Level Plane
    { LP97 }   { LP }

    Oops, they did it again! It seems that TORNAVALANCHE has once again struck paydirt with their newest EP No Money, No Problems, a split release with Init Records and Level Plane. The double drummer action of TORNAVALANCHE, sets a furious pace that the guitar players can barely keep up with. (That's right, not only do they have two drummers, they have two guitar players, three if you count the bass as a guitar.) At times TORNAVALANCHE's No Money, No Problems seems slightly derivative of TEN GRAND or FORSTELLA FORD, but evidently members of TORNAVALANCHE did session work with these bands in the late 90's and in to this century. No Money, No Problems sets a gold standard for the 2006 hardcore/indie/noise/double drummer genre, and considering the impending bull market in gold, you would be very wise to purchase multiple copies of this album

  • Versoma "Life During Wartime"
    From Robotic Empire
    { ROBO67 }   { lp }

    The influence of independent and alternative music's celebrated past is undeniable on VERSOMA's six-track, 18-minute debut EP... but with plenty of aggression and passion retained from years in the punk/metal/hardcore underground. With members having done time in LICKGOLDENSKY, ANODYNE, HOT CROSS, ORCHID and more, one might expect chaotic screaming madness, but (fortunately) this is a wall of guitars mixed with desperate, wailing and haunting vocals; darkness mixed with simplistic genius, and the manic quality control of three different label owners involved. Recorded at Translator Audio with band-member Mike Hill and mastered at West West Side by Alan Douches, the first sonic offering from VERSOMA is an exciting step towards uncharted audio territories, and an excellent indication of things to come.

  • Villabrut / Knives "split"
    From Gasping For Breath
    { G4B004 }   { 7 inch }

    Knives present us with "Schteve Albini Wants His Riffs Back", which I think is more of a cheeky reference to Villabrut on the flip, a band who revolve around the axis of New Brutalism and other "brut" bands, and to a more obvious extent, the aforementioned Steve Albini outfit Shellac. Getting back to Knives, they sound very much like their own entity, twiddling away some lovely arpeggiated riffing before shifting into some heavier moments. It's tricksy and arch, but tunefully memorable. Villabrut have the heavy grooved, noisy riffed, yelled vocal thing right smack down into the ground. Throw some sweet minimalist packaging into the pot and you've got one classy international split release of rocking tuneful bands with a distinctly mathy edge. Generally think of bands like Off Minor, Big Black, The Jesus Lizard and The Red Scare (Villabrut features an ex member of this band).

  • Violent Breakfast "Nient' Altro Che Tempo"
    From Shove Records
    { SH00 }   { lp }

    This LP is an absolute pleasant surprise as Violent Breakfast definitely travel in screamo/hardcore circles but have without a doubt put their own stamp on this style of music. "Nient Altro Che Tempo" is an absolute triumph, and i applaud all involved with this project.Raging emo violence from Italy in that recalls the structures and even experimentalism (within the screamo/hardcore genre) that recalls Raein at their finest.

  • Yo Man Go "Life Lessons"
    From Square of Opposition
    { SOO25 }   { 7 inch }

    This is the debut EP from eastern PA's (and a bit of NJ) new champions of melodic hardcore (isn’t that just a cool way of saying "good diy pop punk"?). 2 songs way up the alley for fans of Dillinger Four, Latterman, and Lifetime. Two members used to be in Hypatia (Allentown), two are still in Off Minor (Philly), and they just toured with Bridge and Tunnel (no idea records, ex- Latterman and Slingshot Dakota). None of that really matters, but it’s nice to know.the point is that this band makes me feel about punk like i havent felt in years. if you dont believe me, check out their myspace page (myspace.com/yomangogo). 611 copies were pressed, all with hand-screened covers.

  • Yossarian is Drowning "s/t"
    From Forever Escaping Boredom
    { FEB007 }   { 7 inch }

    Hailing from the U.K., Yossarian is Drowning plays emotional hardcore in the vein of Kaospilot, Portraits of Past and Hot Cross. On their debut E.P. the lads from Shrewsbury take aim at organized religion and those who fuck up the environment. Think screamy vocals and passionate music that alternates between aggressive riffs and hypnotic melodies. They also have a track on React With Protest's "Emo Armageddon" compilation.
